Pilla Lens Chart & Filtration Guide

Pilla interchangeable shooting lenses in a range of colours and tints

Choosing the right Pilla lens can make a real difference to how clearly you see targets in changing light. This guide walks you through the full lens line-up and what each option is built to do across different backgrounds and weather.

From sporting clays and skeet to trap, game days and competition shooting, Pilla lenses are designed to sharpen contrast, improve clarity and lift targets away from busy scenery. Performance comes from how each lens filters light and colour, not simply how dark or tinted it looks.

The charts below let you compare lenses by setting, light level, colour profile and typical use. Further sections explain filtration types, how to read Pilla lens names, and the core technologies behind each design, so you can see what a lens is doing, not just what it looks like.

We have also included the Outlaw Vista range, which uses a wider panoramic lens shape and Pilla’s LIVE technology for greater coverage and a broader, more immersive view in the field.

Pilla Outlaw Lens Chart

Use the table below to compare standard Pilla Outlaw lenses side by side. You can match options by shooting environment, light conditions, colour profile and typical use. Standard Outlaw, Razor and Top Gun styles are all included here. For the premium Outlaw Vista range, refer to the separate chart further down the page.

On mobile, each lens is shown as a card below.

Filtration Types Explained

Lens colour is often the first thing people notice, but the filtration built into the lens is just as important to how it performs in the field.

Shooter wearing Pilla shooting glasses with solid filtration lenses

Solid Filtration

With solid filtration, the same filter runs right across the lens from edge to edge. The view stays even and predictable, whether you are looking through the centre or towards the sides.

That consistency makes solid filtration a popular choice for clay shooting, game shooting and competition. It works particularly well when light levels stay fairly steady throughout a round.

Shooter wearing Pilla shooting glasses with progressive filtration lenses

Progressive Filtration

Progressive filtration shifts gradually across the lens, usually darker at the top and lighter towards the bottom. That helps balance a bright sky against a darker ground or background.

It can be a useful option when targets are presented at different heights, or when light changes during a round and you need a little more flexibility from a single lens.

Shooter wearing Pilla shooting glasses with CGR filtration lenses

CGR (Contrast Gradient Resolution)

CGR (Contrast Gradient Resolution) is an advanced filtration design that balances brightness, contrast and colour separation across the lens. Instead of being tuned for one type of light, it is designed to adapt across a wider range of shooting conditions.

It suits days when the weather and light keep changing, and you need a lens that can hold contrast and keep targets clear from morning through to evening.

How to Read Pilla Lens Names

Pilla lens names can look complicated at first, but they follow a clear pattern that tells you useful information about each lens.

Light Transmission

The number at the start of the name is roughly the percentage of visible light that passes through the lens.

As a general guide:

  • Lower numbers (approximately 7–25) suit bright sunlight.
  • Mid-range numbers (approximately 26–55) suit mixed or changing light.
  • Higher numbers (approximately 56+) suit fading light, overcast days and indoor shooting.
12CIBB

Lets through around 12% of visible light and is built for bright conditions.

44CMX

Sits in the middle of the range and suits moderate light.

92CIL

Built for very low light and indoor shooting.

Getting the light transmission right is often the key decision when you are choosing a Pilla lens.

Pilla Lens Technologies

Every current Pilla lens includes ICE coating as standard. This helps shed water, oil and dirt, limits fogging and keeps the optics clear in demanding conditions.

As well as ICE, Pilla uses a range of proprietary technologies to improve colour recognition, contrast and overall visual performance.

Chromashift

Chromashift lifts selected colours in the spectrum so targets read more clearly against the background. It is not just about making everything more saturated. The aim is sharper colour separation and quicker target recognition while keeping the view looking natural.

Infra Redâ„¢ (I)

Infra Red adds depth and richness to colour across the lens, giving a more vivid view with stronger colour perception. It is particularly helpful in bright sun or busy, visually cluttered conditions.

Enhanced Definition (ED)

Enhanced Definition prioritises clarity, sharpness and fine detail. These lenses help you pick out edges and depth more easily while keeping colours balanced and natural.

High Contrast (HC)

High Contrast increases the gap between target and background. It helps you keep sight of clays or birds when the backdrop is busy, uneven or changing, and targets might otherwise disappear into the scenery.

Max Orange (MX)

Max Orange strengthens orange and pink tones in the view so targets lift more clearly from what is behind them. That extra separation can help you spot and follow targets more quickly and with more confidence.

Neutraliser (N)

Neutraliser tones down dominant green from trees, foliage and grass. With less green in the picture, targets stand out more clearly, separation improves and woodland layouts become easier on the eye.

Pilla Lens Colours

Filtration controls how a lens handles light and contrast, but lens colour still shapes what you see. Each colour family tends to suit particular backgrounds and shooting situations.

Lens colour on its own does not tell the whole story. Light transmission, filtration type and the technologies built into the lens all have a bigger impact on performance than tint alone.

Brown & Amber

Brown and amber tints help manage glare and keep colours looking natural in strong light. They give a steady, comfortable view and work well in open country, bright sun and high-glare conditions.

Orange & Red

Orange and red lenses push targets forward against open skies and backgrounds. They are a popular choice for sporting clays and other disciplines where you need to pick up targets quickly and hold them in view.

Purple & Pink

Purple and pink lenses calm down strong green in woodland settings and improve separation between target and background. Orange and pink clays read more clearly against foliage, especially when combined with Neutraliser technology.

Green

Green lenses add contrast in flat or tricky light while keeping the view relaxed and easy to watch. They can suit certain target colours well and help stop clays looking washed out on dull, overcast days.

Yellow & Clear

Yellow and clear lenses let in the most light, which makes them well suited to indoor ranges, poor natural light and other low-light shooting. They help you keep targets visible when there is little daylight available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the numbers in Pilla lens names mean?

The number shows roughly how much visible light passes through the lens. Lower numbers mean a darker lens for bright days. Higher numbers let in more light and suit fading light, overcast weather or indoor shooting.

What is lens filtration?

Filtration is how the lens controls light, colour and contrast. The filtration type affects how clearly targets show up against the background and has a big impact on how the lens performs.

What is the difference between Solid, Progressive and CGR filtration?

Solid filtration is the same across the whole lens. Progressive filtration varies from top to bottom, usually darker above and lighter below. CGR uses an advanced gradient design to balance contrast, brightness and adaptability across changing conditions.

What does Chromashift technology do?

Chromashift brings out selected colours to improve target visibility and separation while keeping the view looking natural.

What does Neutraliser technology do?

Neutraliser reduces the effect of green backgrounds such as trees and foliage, so targets are easier to see in woodland settings.

What is the difference between Standard Outlaw and Outlaw Vista lenses?

Outlaw Vista uses a larger panoramic lens shape and LIVE technology, giving more coverage and a wider field of view than standard Outlaw lenses.

Are all Pilla lenses compatible with both X6 and X7 platforms?

No. Which lenses fit depends on the lens family. Some families are available for both platforms, while others are made for either X6 or X7 only.

Where can I learn more about Vista, Razor and Top Gun lenses?

Our Lens Family Guide explains how Standard Outlaw, Outlaw Vista, Razor and Top Gun lens platforms differ.

Can I build a custom Pilla lens package?

Yes. Use our Pilla Bundle Configurator to put together a lens set based on your shooting style, frame choice and the conditions you shoot in most often.

How do I choose the right Pilla lens?

Think about where you shoot, the light you usually face, how targets are presented and what feels right to your eye. The lens charts on this page are a good place to start comparing options side by side.
